Joanna Wezyk
- Joanna Wezyk was born in Poland in 1966. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with a Masters Degree. An accomplished painter and illustrator in Poland, she arrived in the United States 12 years ago. This 20th century painter has brought to her canvases the nostalgia and elegance of centures past, using colors reminiscent of the Fauve painters to ignite a blackened background. Her palette creates a luminosity that emerges from darkness. At the moment, Wezyk's repertoire is divided between still lifes and portraits.
Her still lifes are anything but still, filled with color and movement in a representational format. Vividly colored flowers pulsate to an unknown rhythm, fruit assumes a newfound drama with brillliant brushwork and bold form. - Marion Filler, Art Critic.

"Her ladies are sophisticated and elegant, with a penchant for couture. The true beauty in these paintings, however, lies in the brilliant satirical wit the artist has cleverly woven into the fabric. A master of irony, she pokes fun at the legendary myths about beauty and glamour, and rewrites the tales in her own inimitable style." - Thomas Lawrence, Manhattan Arts

Original Oil. Title - "Red Tulips"
"...they lean into the canvas, piercing the two dimensional plane at unexpected angles. They are wearing stylized dramatic clothing that is reduced to simplified expanses of shape and color and sometimes embellished with kaleidoscopic ornamentation. Wardrobe notwithstanding, however, it is the benign eeriness of the women that grabs the most attention. The characters are mainly out of the imagination of Joanna Wezyk – they are glamour girls with a twist. Their faces bear suggestions of fairy queens whose lives have gone awry – the slightly mad expression, the haunted pallor and tousled hair." - Marion Filler, Art Critic
